GV II

Pair of houses. 1856. By TC Hine of Nottingham. White brick, with red and blue brick dressings, and painted stucco dressings. Hipped slate roofs with 3 coped brick stacks. Plinth, first floor sill band, moulded cornice. Windows are mainly original margin light sashes with chamfered surrounds. 2 storeys plus attics; 3 x 4 windows. North front has a projecting central bay with a shaped gable containing a round-arched window. Central round-arched doorway with sidelights, under a cornice and segmental pediment. Above, a single sash. Slightly projecting side bays have tripartite sashes to the ground floor, and single sashes above. At the right corner, an octagonal corner turret, 2 storeys, with spire roof. On each face, round-arched sashes to the ground floor, and above, an arcade with reglazed round-arched windows. Right return, to west, has a slightly recessed centre with projecting sides. In the centre, 2 tripartite sashes, with single sashes above. Left bay has single sash on each floor. Right bay has a canted bay window, 2 storeys, with 3 sashes. Above, a triple arched loggia with round arches and columns with ornate capitals. South front identical to north front, minus the turret. This building is part of TC Hine's earliest phase of the development of the Castle Park for the Duke of Newcastle.
