Description
The war memorial, retaining wall, and railings at the Memorial Nurses' Home were built between 1921 and 1923, likely designed by the architects Evans, Cartwright & Woollett. The structure features an ashlar wall with a cast-iron railing and a bronze war memorial. The retaining wall is approximately 80 meters long and runs in a slight curve along the north side of Lenton Road, divided by pilasters and topped with a cast-iron railing.
To the left, there are three slightly projecting bays, also divided by pilasters, which contain a bronze plaque flanked by wreaths and torches, serving as the City and County war memorial. Beyond this, the wall steps back into the slope, and in front of it is a lower screen wall, around 20 meters long, featuring a central round-arched gateway flanked by rusticated piers.
