Description

Castle Rising consists of a pair of houses, now three houses, along with attached area railings. They were built in 1856 by T.C. Hine of Nottingham and were altered in the late 19th century. The houses are constructed of red brick with stucco dressings and feature a slate roof with four coped ridge stacks. The basement is rendered, and there is a moulded eaves cornice with a tile frieze.

The windows are mostly original, featuring plain and margin light sashes with moulded surrounds. The building is two storeys high, plus a basement and attics, and has a four-window range. The central section is recessed and fronted by area railings, with gabled wings on either side. The centre features two sashes, with a renewed six-panel door and cornice to the left. Above this, there are two more sashes, and above again, two hipped through-eaves dormers with round-arched sashes.

The exterior includes spearhead area railings. On each side, there are square basement projections that carry canted bay windows with three sashes and hipped roofs. Above these, there are single sashes, and above again, single round-arched sashes in the gables. The basements have three-light mullioned windows. The right return features a gabled glazed enclosure for an external stair, which includes a half-glazed door with patterned glazing bars.
