Description

Fothergill House and the attached boundary wall were built in 1873 by Watson Fothergill of Nottingham for the Misses Woods. The house is designed in the Gothic Revival style and constructed from red brick, featuring blue brick and ashlar dressings, along with banded slate roofs of various forms. Architectural details include a plinth, polychrome ashlar bands, a corbel table, and moulded eaves.

The windows are primarily original plain sashes with ashlar lintels. The building has two and three storeys plus attics and consists of a 2-window range. The main façade faces west and features a central panelled door with shafts, flanked by taller trefoil-headed sidelights with leaded glazing. To the left is a sash window, with a paired sash above it. Further up, to the right, is a smaller sash window, topped by a gabled dormer with a 2-light casement and a traceried head. The left corner has a coped brick stack, while the right side showcases a large canted bay window that rises three storeys, complete with a pyramidal roof and finial, and a central shouldered coped stack. Each floor has single windows on either side, with the upper windows being smaller. The second floor features a central pointed arched recess with a date stone.

The attached boundary wall is made of brick, with moulded brick and ashlar stepped coping. The section along Lenton Road is approximately 10 meters long and includes a gateway with square brick piers, flanked by short lengths with plain balustrades. The wall continues at an acute angle along Ogle Drive for about 45 meters.
