Description

The Old Vic Public House is a former lace warehouse, built in 1895 and 1898 by AH Goodall of Nottingham for Boden & Co., a lace manufacturer. It was converted into a public house in 1991-92. The building is constructed of brick with a faience tile front, and has gables and hipped slate roofs with a single ridge stack. Decorative cornices are present to the ground and second floors, and a patterned frieze adorns the first floor. The windows have been reglazed to mimic the appearance of plain sashes.

The warehouse is four storeys high, plus a basement, and has a 6-window front with a 2-window return. The corner site features an angled corner and a set back entrance bay. The main front has a centrally-positioned round-arched doorway flanked by double brackets below the cornice, along with a renewed panelled door and fanlight. To the right of the doorway is a two-light window, and to the left, three windows. Blocked basement openings are visible. The upper floors feature a mix of segment-arched, flat-headed, and round-headed windows, with a two-light window punctuating the right side on several floors. The angled corner bay has a window on each floor. The left return has a similar arrangement of window styles. The set back entrance bay features a segment-arched cart entrance now fitted with a 20th-century glazed screen and two doors, and regular fenestration above.
