Description

Broadway House and area railings is a former warehouse and factory, now used as offices, located at 5 Broadway in Nottingham. Built between 1850 and 1860 by TC Hine, the building underwent additions in 1882 by SR Stevenson for the Midland Lace Company. It features red brick construction with an ashlar ground floor and ashlar dressings, and the roof is not visible behind a coped parapet.

The building has a plinth, ground floor and eaves cornices, and rusticated quoins. It is a four-storey corner block with a symmetrical main front facing Broadway, which has a recessed center with three windows and a central canted bay window that is three storeys high with three lights and topped with a balustrade. On either side of the bay, there are single windows, and above them, there are three additional windows. The right window on the second floor has been converted into a loft door.

The projecting end bays each have three windows with regular fenestration, and the left window on the first floor has also been converted into a loft door. The central entrance features segment-arched moulded doorways with double shafts and panelled double doors, along with wrought-iron gates and guards to the fanlights. A short matching area railing is present outside.

To the right, there is a rebated rounded corner bay with two round-arched windows on each floor, flanked by brick pilasters, and beyond this, there are single windows. The right return facing Stoney Street has four windows with regular fenestration and includes a six-panel door with an overlight.
