Description

39 Stoney Street is a mid-19th century warehouse that has been converted into offices. It was altered in 1905 by G.S. Doughty of Nottingham for Philo L. Mills, with further modifications to the attics in the late 20th century. The building is constructed of red brick, featuring a painted ashlar ground floor, with ashlar and blue brick dressings, and a clerestory roof.

The structure has a plinth and a rusticated ground floor with a cornice, as well as quoins at the corner bay and an eaves band. A wrought-iron balustrade railing with brick pedestals adorns the building. The windows are primarily segment-arched plain sashes with linked hood moulds. The building rises four storeys plus a basement and attics, with a window arrangement of 7 x 5. It occupies a corner site with a rebated rounded corner.

The corner entrance bay features a round-arched doorway flanked by pilasters and topped with a pediment on brackets, which includes a double keystone. The entrance has panelled double doors, and above it, there is a window on each floor. The ground floor has flat-headed transomed casements on each return, while the upper floors exhibit regular fenestration on each return. The clerestory is fitted with continuous glazing behind a late 20th-century balustrade.
