Description

The lodge and gateway at Basford Cemetery, built around 1889 and altered in the mid-20th century, is constructed from rockfaced stone with ashlar dressings and features a slate roof, along with cast-iron railings and gates. The lodge has a plinth, a first floor band, coped gables, and two coped side wall stacks. It is two storeys high with a layout in an L-shape, featuring four windows on the front and two on the side. The windows are plain sashes with pointed arched ashlar surrounds. The entrance front, which faces the drive, has a wing to the right with a three-light mullioned window and a similar two-light window above it, along with a coat of arms above that. To the left, there is a lean-to porch with a corner opening that covers a shouldered board door, and to the right, a two-light window. Above this, there are three single light windows. The left gable, facing the street, is identical to the right wing. The gateway to the right of the lodge features a pair of shouldered square piers with pyramidal caps and a pair of original cast-iron gates, with curving side walls topped with matching railings.
