SK54SE NOTTINGHAM ROAD, Basford 646-1/4/777 (North East side) Lodge and gateway at Basford Cemetery

Lodge and gateway at cemetery. c1889, altered mid C20. Rockfaced stone with ashlar dressings and slate roof, cast-iron railing and gates. Lodge has plinth, first floor band, coped gables and 2 coped side wall stacks. 2 storeys; 4 x 2 windows. L-plan. Windows are plain sashes with pointed arched ashlar surrounds. Entrance front, facing the drive, has to right a wing with a 3-light mullioned window, and above, a similar 2-light window. Above again, a coat of arms. To left, a lean-to porch with a corner opening covering a shouldered board door, and to right a 2-light window. Above, 3 single light windows. Left gable, to street, identical to the right wing. Gateway, to right of the lodge, has a pair of shouldered square piers with pyramidal caps and a pair of original cast-iron gates. Curving side walls topped with matching railings.
