Description

This is a house, dating to circa 1739, which has been altered in the late 19th and 20th centuries. It is currently used as flats and offices. The building is constructed of red brick with brick and ashlar dressings, and has gabled and hipped slate roofs with two brick valley stacks.

The building has an ashlar plinth, a band marking the first floor, and a coped parapet and gables. Most of the windows are 18th-century sash windows with glazing bars, set within brick flat arches. The house is three storeys high and has a double-depth plan. The front elevation is symmetrical, with slightly projecting end bays. The central entrance has stone steps leading to a six-panel door and overlight, enclosed by a curved wrought-iron balustrade, all within a plain wooden frame. On each side of the entrance are two sash windows, with the left-hand windows being plain. To the left of the entrance is a half-glazed door with overlight, and to the right is a rendered end bay with a restored sash window. The upper floors have regular window placement, decreasing in size with each floor. A lead rainwater head is dated circa 1739.

The right return has a rendered ground floor with mid-20th century windows and a door, above which are two floors with four sash windows, each with a keystone.

The interior features an original wooden dogleg staircase with an intersecting string and handrail, and vase and stem balusters. The staircase has square newels and panelled wainscot. A central rear room has full-height fielded panelling and an overmantel panel. A front room, altered in the late 19th century, showcases two moulded elliptical niches and a panelled overmantel.
