Description
Old Basford Health Centre is a house that has been converted into a health centre. It was originally built in the early 18th century, with additions and alterations made in the 19th and early 20th centuries, and it was restored in the late 20th century. The building is constructed of brick, featuring a roughcast front and a plain tile roof, with a side wall stack added to the extension. The base has a rendered plinth, and most of the windows are glazing bar sashes.
The structure has two storeys plus garrets and includes a five-window range. The central entrance features an ashlar doorcase with a hood supported by foliage brackets, leading to an 18th-century six-panel door and a fanlight with Gothick glazing bars. To the left of the entrance are two sash windows, while to the right is a shallow wooden bay window from the late 19th century that contains four sashes. Above this bay window, there are five additional sash windows.
To the left, there is an additional two-storey wing with a two-window range, characterized by brick quoins and a pedimented gable. This wing also features a shallow bay window with four sashes and two sashes above it. Inside, the health centre boasts an early 18th-century open newel staircase, which has double twist and turned balusters, along with an intersecting handrail and string to the upper flights. The staircase includes a cut string, a ramped and scrolled handrail, and stick balusters on the landing. The first floor is adorned with moulded cornices.
