Description
Orchard House, now a health centre, is a house dating from the late 16th to 17th century that was remodelled in the 20th century. It features regular coursed ironstone ashlar and render, with a stone slate roof laid in diminishing courses and brick shafts on stone bases at the ends. The building is two storeys plus an attic and has a two-window range in an L-plan layout. The central doorway has a part-glazed door with an overlight and is flanked by a three-light and a four-light stone-mullioned window, both with hood moulds and label stops. On the first floor, there is a two-light and a four-light stone-mullioned window, also with hood moulds and label stops. To the left, there is a gable-fronted bay with a 20th-century window, and to the right, a gabled roof dormer. Inside, there are stone fireplaces with chamfered bressumers and a dog-leg staircase from the 16th or 17th century, featuring heavy carved balusters. The 20th-century brick extensions are not of special architectural interest.
