Description

This is a 17th-century house with later alterations and an 18th-century wing to the rear. The main part of the house is built of regular coursed ironstone rubble and has a steeply pitched tile roof with a brick end stack to the left. The roof features stone coping with a moulded kneeler. The house has two storeys plus an attic and basement and originally had a two-window front. A two-light stone-mullioned cellar window is present, along with a moulded stone plinth. The ground floor has a renewed wood-mullioned and transomed window, and a three-light stone-mullioned window with a hood mould and fragmentary label stops. The first floor has two renewed wood-mullioned and transomed windows. Dormers light the attic. A two-light stone-mullioned window is at the cellar level. To the rear, a renewed door gives access, and there are two stone-mullioned windows on both the ground and attic floors, all with fragmentary remains of hood moulds. The rear wing is constructed of ashlar ironstone with a slate roof and a brick end stack. It is two storeys tall with a four-window front; a panelled door with an overlight is flanked by renewed wood-mullioned and transomed windows with keystoned heads. Four renewed wood-mullioned and transomed windows to the first floor have a continuous wooden lintel, and a stone band runs at first floor level. Attached to the left is a single-storey and attic outbuilding and barn, built of ironstone with an asbestos roof and containing five bays. It has a collar truss roof. The interior has not been inspected. A photograph is held in the National Monuments Record.
