Description
Cavendish Buildings is a group of shops and offices built in 1894 by John Howitt of Nottingham. The building is constructed of ashlar and features a roof that is not visible. It has a symmetrical front with a rusticated first floor, string courses, and sill bands. The bays are defined by pilasters, and there is a cornice with a pierced balustrade. The structure has four storeys plus attics and a five-window range. The ground floor includes two late 20th-century shopfronts, with the right one retaining original stone pilasters. The first and second floors feature a shallow bow window with three sashes, an enriched lintel, and a balustrade. On either side of these, there are two windows on each floor. Above, there are regular courses of windows with tripartite windows in the centre. A pedimented gable containing a datestone is located over the central bay. The building is included for its group value.
