Description
3 and 5 Hounds Gate is a town house that has been converted into shops, with offices and a studio above. It dates from the mid-18th century and has undergone alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building features painted brick with painted ashlar dressings and a slate roof that includes a large skylight and a gable stack. There are first and second floor sill bands and a dentillated wooden eaves cornice. The structure has four storeys and a four-window range of plain sashes with wedge lintels and double keystones. Above this, there are four similar windows, and above again, a two-light and a three-light studio window with glazing bars. The ground floor is occupied by two large 20th-century shopfronts, which include a central recessed entrance.
