Description

This building comprises three shops and offices, dated 1888, designed by Evans & Jolly of Nottingham. It is constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings and has plain tile and slate roofs, topped by an ashlar ridge stack featuring eight octagonal flues. A molded brick and ashlar eaves cornice runs along the top. The windows are primarily paired plain sashes set within stone surrounds and mullions. The building is four storeys high plus attics, with three windows across each facade. The corner site is angled sharply, with a splayed corner. The ground floor has shopfronts installed in the late 20th century on both frontages. The corner bay features a stone oriel window with three lights on the first floor. Above this, there is a single window on each floor, surmounted by a gable with a triple octagonal chimney stack inscribed with the date. The left return, facing South Parade, has three two-light mullion windows on each floor. The attics are punctuated by three gabled dormers with casements. The right return, facing Wheeler Gate, mirrors this design with similar fenestration: four paired windows on the left side and smaller single windows on the right. Five dormers are present in the attics. The interior was refitted in the late 20th century.
