Description
42 Friar Gate is a mid-18th century building constructed of red brick. It stands three storeys high and features five sash windows, some of which have blind cases. The windows are adorned with flat brick arches, stone keyblocks, and stone sills. The central part of the building projects slightly forward and includes one window. There is a central stone doorcase with a rectangular moulded frame, a moulded pediment supported by consoles, and a traceried fanlight above the door. The building has a modillion eaves cornice and is covered with slate roofing. To the right side, there is a recessed three-storey wing with one window. This property is part of a group that includes Nos 27 to 32, the Friar Gate Railway Bridge, Nos 35 to 39, and Nos 41 to 51.
