Description
46 Friar Gate is a mid-19th century building that has been newly altered and restored as of 1974. It is constructed of red brick and stands three storeys tall. The building features four sash windows; the top storey windows are set in dog-eared stone surrounds, while the second storey windows have pilasters, cornices, and pediments. The ground storey windows have plain moulded stone surrounds. There are stone bands and a plinth, along with a restored Tuscan doorcase that includes a frieze and modillion cornice, a traceried fanlight, and a six-panelled door. The building also has a moulded eaves cornice and a restored small parapet. The roof is covered with modern slates and includes a lantern light. This property is part of a group that includes Nos 27 to 32, the Friar Gate Railway Bridge, and Nos 35 to 51 on Friar Gate.
