Description
Large's Hospital, located on Friar Gate, was founded in 1716 and rebuilt in 1880. It consists of a range of four almshouses, originally five, constructed from red brick with stone dressings. The building is two storeys high with gables, featuring a slightly projecting gabled bay at each end. There are eight windows, typically arranged in two or three lights with stone mullions, along with five stone canted bay windows. The structure has four plain doorways, each with a plain rectangular fanlight, and is adorned with bargeboards and finials. The roof is tiled, and there is an inscribed store tablet that records the earlier building. This property is included for its group value with Nos 78 to 84, which form a cohesive group.
