Description
73 Friar Gate is a building dating from around 1840, originally serving as a Diocesan School. It is constructed of brick with stone dressings and stands two storeys high. The facade features two two-light stone mullioned windows on the ground floor, which include transoms. There is also a prominent five-light stone mullioned and transomed oriel window positioned at a splayed angle, adorned with geometrical pattern iron lights. Above this window is a gable that includes a clock and an obelisk finial. The entrance is marked by a doorway with a moulded surround and a pointed arched head, topped with a hood mould that extends across as a band, leading to an eight-panelled divided door. The building is finished with a stone eaves cornice, a coped parapet, and a gable. The return side facing Vernon Street has five windows.
