Description
The principal barn and attached farm building, located approximately 10 metres north of Maltkiln Farmhouse, date from the late 18th century. They are constructed from coursed squared stone with quoins and feature a stone slate roof. The barn has five internal bays and includes central segmental-headed cart entrances with a stepped reveal, along with a part-blocked entrance to the right and ventilation slits. The gable ends have copings on moulded kneelers. Stone stairs provide access to a later first-floor entrance of the attached lower building on the left. There is a small single-storey addition to the front left that is not of special interest. The left return has a quoined entrance that is blocked. At the rear, both buildings feature a segmental-headed cart entry. Inside the barn, there are four king-post trusses, two purlins in the roof pitches, a diagonally-set ridge, and wall plates, with some diagonal bracing that may be a later addition.
