Description
This building is a barn located approximately 15 metres southeast of Balk Farmhouse, dating from around 1800. It is constructed from coursed, squared rubble sandstone and features a stone slate roof. The barn is two storeys high and has three external bays, with large quoins at the corners.
The central entrance is a quoined waggon entrance with a segmental arch and boarded doors. To the left, there is a stable door beneath a plain lintel. The barn has three rows of slit vents, most of which are blocked, and three square hatches on the first floor that have 20th-century casements in square-faced surrounds. The roof is hipped, and the rear of the barn is similar to the front, with an archway that has been walled up and a small door inserted.
Inside, the barn features pattern-book king-post trusses at each end, while the other trusses are light-scantling, collared principal-rafter trusses. This building is included for its group value.
