Description

The barn located north west of Valley Farmhouse dates back to the 18th century and was extended in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed from coursed lias stone with chamfered black slag-block quoins and features a clay pantile roof with stone-coped gable ends that have kneelers.

The barn has a three-bay plan with a six-bay roof. The front of the center bay includes a large cart entrance leading to the midstrey, while there is a smaller opposing door at the rear. To the left of the midstrey is a 19th-century stable outshut, and to the right is a later outshut.

On the exterior, the east front showcases a large midstrey with a hipped roof and slag quoins. The 19th-century stone outshut to the left has a pantile roof, while the later outshut on the right features a corrugated sheet roof. The end gables are equipped with loading doors that also have slag quoins. The rear side has a central doorway with slag quoins and ventilation slits on either side, along with plank double doors.

Inside, the barn features a six-bay roof structure supported by tie-beam and collar trusses with tenoned purlins. The collars are constructed with dovetail halved and lapped joints. Loft floors have been inserted at both ends of the barn. Additionally, there is a cider-press from Manor Farm, Kelston.
