Description
The Gothick arch is located approximately 10 metres north of the boundary wall of Nostell Park and about 70 metres north of Nostell Bridge. This archway, which likely dates from the late 18th century, serves as an entrance over a footpath leading to a former menagerie in Nostell Park. It is constructed from heavily worn sandstone rubble with a hand-made brick interior. The arch is designed in a Gothic style, standing about 4 metres high at the center and sloping down on each side. It features central two-centred arches on both the front and rear, flanked by the remains of blind cruciform loop-lights. The coping is flat and probably dates from the 19th century. Inside, there is an oval lobby lined with hand-made brick and topped with a groin-vaulted roof.
