Description
The archway, located approximately 10 metres north of Farnley Hall, dates back to 1624. It is constructed from coursed squared gritstone and features a shallow pointed arch with a moulded chamfer. On either side of the arch are fluted Tuscan columns set on square bases, which have shallow recessed panels. Above the arch is an entablature, and the cornice is interrupted by a square limestone panel that contains a weathered coat of arms. Originally, the archway was positioned closer to the house, serving as an entrance to a courtyard that was flanked on the north side by a tall kitchen wing, which was demolished around 1980. The garden walls that flank the archway were also built around 1980 and are not of special interest.
