Description
Nos 15 to 21 Market Place is a terrace of four houses that have been converted into a public house, restaurant, and shops. The buildings date from the early to mid-18th century, with later alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. They are constructed from rendered brick with stone dressings and feature a slate roof. The terrace stands three tall storeys high and consists of seven bays.
The central entrance leads to through-passages that open into the outer bays. The ground floor showcases semi-circular-headed arches at the through-passages, which have rusticated jambs, radiating voussoirs, and dropped keystones, with the arch on the right being wider. Both arches are topped with a narrow cornice. The recessed central entrance is flanked by 20th-century shop fronts.
On the first and second floors, the left-hand corner features a rusticated pilaster strip. The first floor has seven narrow flush-frame plate-glass sash windows above a moulded sill band with projecting bracketed sills. The second floor has seven similar, smaller windows above a similar band and sills, with a later moulded gutter below. An early 20th-century egg-and-dart and moulded cornice runs along the top. The roof is steeply pitched with swept eaves and there are no stacks present.
