Description
Nos 25 and 27 Market Place are two houses that share a roof and are now used as two shops with offices above. They likely date from the early 18th century, with alterations made in the mid to late 19th century and the 20th century. The buildings are constructed of rendered and painted brick in Flemish bond and have a Welsh slate roof. They are two storeys tall with lofts and feature two bays on each side.
No 25 has a ground floor shop front from the 20th century that is not of special interest. The first floor has a four-light casement square bay window, a boarded-over cornice, and two gabled dormers, each containing a two-light casement window.
No 27 has a more prominent front with painted ashlar quoins. Its ground floor also features a 20th-century shop front that is not of special interest, along with a boarded door beneath an overlight that provides access to the upper floors. The first floor includes two sash windows with projecting sills and deep lintels, a frieze, a dentil cornice, and a corniced parapet above two flat-roofed dormer windows. There are no chimney stacks. The buildings are included for their group value.
