Description
Nos 1 to 3 Market Place is a 18th-century house that has been converted on the ground floor into a shop, with the upper floors used as flats. The building is constructed of red brick laid in header bond, with many of the bricks originally vitrified, although much of this has been lost due to sand blasting. It features dressings in lighter red brick and has a hipped slate roof. The structure is three storeys tall and has a six-window facade. The first and second floors are fitted with segmental-headed flush sash windows that include glazing bars. The first and third windows on both floors are blind and painted to simulate sashes, with the first bay windows being narrower than the others. All windows have gauged brick heads. The ground floor includes a narrow semi-circular headed doorway on the left, which contains a four-panel door and a plain semi-circular headed fanlight. The third, fourth, and fifth bays are occupied by a 20th-century replica of the original 19th-century canted double shop front, flanked by segmental-headed blind windows in the second and sixth bays. A deep timber eaves cornice completes the design.
