Description

Number 279 and the attached screen walls are a house and screen walls dating from the early 19th century. They are constructed from ashlar magnesian limestone and feature a Welsh slate roof. The building is two storeys high and consists of three bays, with two-bay screen walls on each side and a lower two-storey wing at the rear. The ground-floor walling is cemented.

The central entrance has a part-glazed door set within a wooden doorcase that features a pediment. This door is flanked by sash windows with glazing bars, which have projecting stone sills and flat arches. The facade displays a row of infilled sockets, likely remnants of a former verandah. The first-floor windows match those on the ground floor. The building has paired gutter brackets and cement-rendered end stacks.

On the left, the screen wall includes a part-glazed door to the right of a blind recess, with ashlar copings that slope down to the left to cover a low forward projection of the wall. The right screen wall now serves as the facade for a one-storey extension to the house and features windows similar to those on the main building, with ashlar copings that slope down on the right where the wall ends.
