Description
Wharfedale House is a mid-19th century building that has been converted into two dwellings. It is constructed from ashlar magnesian limestone and features a Welsh slate roof. The house is two storeys high and has three bays, originally built as a wing to No 267. The central entrance consists of a four-panel door with a plain overlight, framed by a wooden doorcase that includes pilasters and a cornice. The flanking bays contain tripartite sash windows, each with four, eight, and four panes, which have projecting stone sills and are topped with plain lintels. On the first floor, there are sash windows with glazing bars, also featuring projecting stone sills and plain lintels. The eaves of the roof are supported by wooden gutter brackets, and the roof abuts the right return of No 267 on the left, while the right side has a hipped roof with a corniced end stack. The rear of the building has three bays of sash windows with glazing bars, but there are later additions on the rear right that are not of special interest. This house was formerly the master's residence for Wharfedale College, which was established at No 267 in the mid-1850s.
