Description

This is a terrace of four houses, numbers 264, 266, 268 (Fir Tree House) and 270, built around 1800 and altered subsequently. The houses are constructed of ashlar magnesian limestone with a Welsh slate roof. They are two storeys high with cellars and attics, and originally had nine windows to the first floor.

Number 264, on the right-hand side, has stone steps leading to a six-panel door with a plain overlight, set beneath a flat arch. A bow window to the left extends to the basement and first floor, featuring curved four-pane sashes and a dentilled cornice with a relieving arch. Three four-pane sashes are set in flush wooden architraves to the first floor, with the left-hand window having a lower sill. The right end features a half-bay addition with a first-floor oriel bay window on the return.

Number 266 is similar, with a doorway on the right of a canted bay window featuring plain sashes. Two first-floor sashes have glazing bars set beneath flat arches.

Number 268 has a similar doorway on the left of a canted bay window with casements having glazing bars and a central sash on the ground floor, along with a relieving arch. Matching sashes are present to the first floor, and a painted window is visible on the right.

Number 270 has a bow window to the basement with sixteen-pane sashes, and sashes with glazing bars to the first floor. Two matching first-floor sashes are topped with wooden cornices on consoles. The entrance to number 270 is on the left return. The building has a wooden eaves cornice. Brick ridge stacks are located between numbers 270 and 268, and between 268 and 266. A brick end stack is present on the right.
