Description
A coach house and former servants' accommodation, dating from approximately 1775, stands roughly 15 metres east of Bishop's House. Constructed of punch-dressed stone with a Welsh blue-slate roof, the building, along with other unlisted structures, forms two sides of a courtyard. The coach house is L-shaped and two storeys high, with three first-floor windows to one range and two to the other. The coach house features paired segmental-arched carriage entrances on the right, each with double doors and a weathered lintel decorated with false voussoirs. Above, three first-floor windows are similarly treated. A hipped roof is topped by two ridge stacks. The dwelling range projects forward to the right, featuring a doorway with a wedge-shaped lintel cut with false voussoirs, a 10-paned glazed overlight, and double doors. Another hipped roof sits over this section. On its left return, facing the courtyard, are two bays of three-light small-pane Yorkshire sash windows, each with deep sandstone lintels and projecting sills. A ridge stack is present. The right-hand return, facing Bishop’s House, has three bays: doorways with lintels cut with false voussoirs, each featuring 6-panel doors and overlights with blind windows above. These flank a central bay of 12-pane sash windows on both floors. The angled corner has a single sash window where it meets the coach house, which also has two bays of sash windows.
