Description
Kenilworth Cottage is a house dating from the early 19th century, situated on Main Street in Thorner. It is constructed of well-coursed dressed gritstone with a Welsh blue-slate roof. The house follows a double-depth, two-cell central-entry plan. The symmetrical facade has three bays. The central doorway features an architrave, a frieze, a casement-moulded cornice, a blocking course, a six-panel door with a glazed overlight. The window above the doorway has an architrave and sill on blocks, and features a 12-pane sash window. The flanking bays have thin monolithic lintels and sills with 16-pane sashes. The roof has coped gables with kneelers and ashlar stacks.
Inside, the doorway opens into a hall with doorways on either side, framed by architraves and containing six-panel doors. An archway with pilasters and imposts leads to a staircase, which has simple turned balusters and newels. The upper flight of the staircase is open-strung, with brackets and a ramped handrail. All doors have raised and fielded panels.
