Description

Old Poplar Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 18th century, with alterations made in the early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble, partly rendered, and features quoins. The stone slate roof has two gable stacks, coped gables, and kneelers. The building is two storeys high.

On the east front, there is a single window opening to the left and a pair of window openings to the right, along with a small projecting lean-to, likely a privy. Above, there are two pairs of window openings. The south front has two, two-light mullion windows on the ground floor with chamfered surrounds and a continuous drip mould above a pair of window openings. The rendered west front features two doorways on the ground floor and two pairs of windows above. The north front is mostly hidden by a single-storey addition that is now in a ruinous state, above a pair of window openings. All window frames and doors have been removed.

Inside, the two ground floor rooms on the south side contain chamfered spine beams and large stone fireplaces. The fireplace to the east has a chamfered four-centred arched surround with a later, smaller plain surround inserted, while the fireplace to the west is larger, with a chamfered and curved surround that also contains a later, smaller plain inserted surround. In recent years, the building has been used as an animal shelter or hay store.
