Description
This building, located at 144 Town Street in Rodley, is a cottage with a workshop that dates from the late 18th century and was restored in the 20th century. It is constructed of coursed squared gritstone and has a stone slate roof. The building has two storeys with two bays facing the street and three storeys at the rear.
The central entrance features tie-stone jambs, while to the left is a wide flat arch with a single-stone lintel that is set low down and is now partially blocked. To the right of the entrance is a 20th-century two-light window. On the first floor, there are two two-light flat-faced mullion windows with modern casements. At the rear, the wide arch on the right has modern stone walling, and there are single- and two-light mullioned windows with modern plate-glass frames.
The rise in the street level obscures the arched access to the rear of the premises, which leads to the canal wharf behind. Recent restoration work included the removal of a mid-19th century shop front and pilastered doorway. The interior has not been inspected.
