Description
The Rodley Barge Public House is a house and cottage that has been converted into a public house. It dates from the late 18th century and has undergone extensive alterations in the mid-19th century and 20th century. The building is constructed of coursed gritstone and features stone slate roofs.
It has two storeys with a two-bay main range on the left and a projecting bay on the right. The left range has a central entrance that has been changed to a window, featuring a plain lintel and upper jambs. It also has tall two-light flat-faced mullion windows with 20th-century casements. The upper windows are taller than those on the ground floor, and a change in the stonework on the front indicates that the eaves were originally much lower. The building has gable copings and end stacks.
The right bay has 20th-century openings on the ground floor and a two-light mullioned window on the first floor, along with gable copings and a rebuilt stack on the left. Inside, there are two parallel bars that open off a corridor on the left, which were refitted in the late 20th century. There is also a cellar located below the bar on the road frontage.
