Description

The building is a coach house and stables, now used as offices and lecture rooms. It was constructed in the mid-19th century and altered in the 20th century. The structure is made of coursed squared gritstone and features a hipped stone slate roof. It has two storeys and eight first-floor windows, with quoins at the corners. The facade is symmetrical, with a tall round carriage arch in the center bay, which is now blocked, and a small round-arch opening in the tympanum above. The openings have plain stone surrounds, with 20th-century doors and sash windows that include glazing bars and margin lights on the third window of the ground floor and the first floor left and sixth window on the first floor right. The eaves are supported by paired brackets, and deep paired brackets hold up a moulded pediment. At the rear, there is a central two-storey gabled bay, with the left end projecting slightly. The interior has not been inspected. An 1834 map of Kirkstall Grange indicates that a large L-shaped range was likely built for the Beckett family soon after this date.
