Description

Leighton Hall is a hall of residence built in 1911 by G.W. Atkinson, located at Leeds Metropolitan University. The building is constructed of red brick with ashlar details and features a slate hipped roof. It stands three storeys tall and has five unequal bays with windows arranged in a pattern of 3, 5, 1, 5, and 3. Designed in a Classical 'Wrennaissance' style, it is one of seven halls situated to the south of the main building, James Graham Hall. The central and outer bays project forward and are adorned with brick rustication and pilasters. The entrance features central double doors with a geometric-pattern overlight set within a rusticated architrave, flanked by Ionic columns that support an entablature and cornice, which continues as a band on the first floor. The building has small-pane windows throughout, located in round-arched recesses on the upper floors. Notable architectural details include original rainwater goods, a modillion cornice, pedimented ends and center, and banded brick ridge stacks. The interior has not been inspected.
