Description

Bronte Hall is a hall of residence built in 1911 by GW Atkinson, located at Leeds Metropolitan University. The building is constructed of red brick with ashlar details and features a slate hipped roof. It stands three storeys tall and has five unequal bays with windows arranged in the pattern of 3, 5, 1, 5, 3. Designed in a Classical 'Wrennaissance' style, this hall is one of seven grouped to the south of the main building and has a more ornate facade facing south.

The structure has an ashlar plinth, with the central and outer bays projecting forward. The outer bays feature brick rustication at the upper-floor quoins and are topped with triangular pediments that contain round windows. The central bay has an ashlar ground floor, corner pilasters above, and a segmental pediment. The entrance is marked by three-panel double doors with a traceried overlight, set within an architrave topped by a pedimented cornice.

Throughout the building, small-pane sash windows are present, including circular panes in round-arched recesses in bays 2 and 4 on the ground floor, and an elaborate architrave above the first-floor center. Additional architectural details include a first-floor band, a deep modillion cornice, tall decorated brick ridge stacks, and original ornate rainwater goods featuring owls and a date. The interior has not been inspected.
