Hall of residence. 1911. By GW Atkinson. Red brick, ashlar details, slate hipped roof. 3 storeys, 5 unequal bays of 3,5,1,5,3 windows. In Classical 'Wrennaissance' style, one of the 7 halls grouped to the S of the main building, this hall facing S and having a more ornate facade. Ashlar plinth; central and outer bays break forward, the outer bays with brick rustication to upper-floor quoins and triangular pediment with round window, the centre bay with ashlar ground floor, corner pilasters above, and segmental pediment. Central entrance: 3-panel double doors with traceried overlight in architrave with pedimented cornice. Small-pane sashes throughout, with circular panes and in round-arched recesses bays 2 and 4 on ground floor, in elaborate architrave to 1st floor centre. 1st-floor band, deep modillion cornice, decorated tall brick ridge stacks, original ornate rainwater goods with owls and date. INTERIOR: not inspected.
