Description
Hawkstone Farmhouse is a farmhouse dated 1726, located in Guiseley. It is constructed of coursed squared sandstone with quoins and features a stone slate roof. The building is L-shaped, designed as a double-depth four-room house with an outshut at the rear of the left half. It has two storeys and two bays, creating an almost symmetrical appearance. A prominent single-storey porch, which also serves as an outhouse, is an addition to the original structure. This porch has a small window in the gable wall and a doorway in the left side wall, which protects the inner doorway that has a chamfered surround and a shaped lintel. The farmhouse features two four-light windows on each floor, all with square flush mullions and raised surrounds. In the centre of the first floor, above the porch, there is a datestone with the year "1726" inscribed on it, although it is partly concealed by creeper. Above this datestone is an inserted two-light window. The gable ends have chimneys and copings with kneelers. At the rear, the building is set against a rising slope, with the outshut built into this slope. The back door opens into the area beside it, and there is a three-light window above the door.
Inside, the farmhouse features chamfered beams, and the front left room has a rectangular fireplace with a chamfered surround. This farmhouse is a good example of its date and type.
