Description
High View, originally two cottages, is part of the Esholt Estate. It is a late 18th century or early 19th century rebuild of a 17th century building. The structure is two storeys tall and constructed from sandstone "brick", with a gable end retaining wall from a demolished early 18th century building. It features a stone slate roof and a tall corniced chimney on the west gable.
The front elevation includes three light square mullion windows on the left side and two light windows on the right, one of which has been converted into a single casement. All windows are set in squared surrounds. There are squared jamb broad framed doorways in the centre.
On the rear elevation, the ground floor has three small single light windows, one of which is corbelled round and chamfered, along with similar windows that are now blocked. The first floor retains five unaltered 17th century windows with splayed reveals and one chamfered mullion, as well as an altered former three light square mullion window. The gable end of the demolished late 17th century or early 18th century house still has a chimney breast with a fireplace featuring a semi-rounded chamfered lintel on corbels, which is now walled up. This gable end also has a small single light window at ground floor level.
