Description
This row of three cottages, located to the north-west of Stonebridge Mills, consists of a pair of mill workers' cottages and a later cottage that served as a timekeeper's office, now converted into a house. They were built around 1830 and in the mid-19th century. The cottages are constructed from coursed squared gritstone with ashlar dressings and feature stone slate roofs with two gable stacks.
The original pair of cottages on the eastern side has a central entrance with two doorways that have flush painted ashlar surrounds. The left doorway contains a 20th-century door, while the right doorway is now blocked. Each cottage has a single two-light plain sash window on either side of the doorways. Above these, there are two smaller three-light plain sash windows, and above again, an off-centre single plain sash window flanked by two three-light plain sash windows.
The later cottage to the west is three storeys tall and has a single 20th-century door, with a two-light plain sash window to the left. Above this, there is a single casement window and a two-light casement window, followed by another single casement and a two-light casement window above. All openings have flush ashlar surrounds with stone mullions.
The left side of the row features a single entrance to the former time office, which has double doors with an ashlar surround and a large incised lintel. The rear, facing the street, displays various pairs of plain sash windows in flush ashlar surrounds. These cottages were built to accommodate the workers at Stonebridge Mills.
