Description
This is a row of ten cottages, dating from the early to mid-19th century, with a slightly later addition at the left end. The cottages are constructed from hammer-dressed stone with stone slate roofs. They are two storeys high and arranged in double-depth units. Each cottage has a doorway with monolithic jambs on the left side, with a two-light window above. To the right of each doorway, on both floors, is a three-light, flat-faced mullioned window, although some of these windows have been altered and do not match the original style. There are ten ridge stacks. The right-hand return wall, which fronts Main Street and incorporates number 118, includes a doorway with monolithic jambs to the left of a mid-20th century shop window. The row provides a good example of workers’ cottages built to accommodate mill workers during the early stages of industrialisation.
