Description

This building is a barn, likely dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century, with an attached gin house. It is constructed from magnesian limestone rubble and has a stone slate roof. The barn has a rectangular plan, probably consisting of six bays. The east side is mostly covered by a later addition that provides shelter for a stockyard.

On the west side, there are short full-height porches at the second and fourth bays, where the doors have been altered. Between these porches, there is a pantiled monopitched roof at half height that creates an open shelter. To the right of the second porch is a hexagonal horse-gin house, which was formerly open on alternate sides but is now blocked with brick, and it has a hipped pantile roof. The barn's roof is hipped at both ends and has swept eaves. The interior has been altered at various times. This building is included for its group value and is shown on the Tithe Map of 1843, although it does not appear on the Survey of the Manor of Micklefield from 1774.
