Description

The stable block, now a shop, dates from around 1800 and is located to the west of Number 212, known as Listers Bedding Centre, on the south side of Boston Spa High Street. It is constructed of coursed squared magnesian limestone and features a stone slate roof. The building is two storeys high and has a symmetrical layout with one bay on each side and two central bays that are set forward. The central bays have projecting stone sills supporting 20th-century casements with glazing bars, all beneath flat arches. There is a band pediment with a blind oculus in the tympanum and ashlar copings above these central bays. The outer bays have similar window styles and an eaves band beneath a hipped roof.

On the left side, a coped wall features a narrower casement and conceals a stone-slated wing, which includes a later lean-to that is not of special interest. To the right of the central block, there is a lower wall with a later doorway that contains a glazed door in a wooden doorcase, topped with a bracketed canopy. The rear of the building is similar to the front but has blocked ground-floor windows. On the first floor, there is a door in the second bay and blind windows in the outer bays. The gable has a pediment and an iron finial. The wing on the right has a door and a casement inserted beneath a segmental arch. This stable block originally served Boston House and previously had blind windows facing the road.
