Description
St Kitts is a house built in the late 18th century for Reverend Christopher Atkinson. It is constructed of ashlar magnesian limestone and features a roof made of Welsh and green slate. The building has two storeys and a half-basement, with a symmetrical facade comprising two, three, and two bays. There is a central projection with a stone porch that includes a six-panel door framed by a plain, corniced architrave under a pediment. The ground floor windows have projecting stone sills and cornices, with 20th-century casements featuring glazing bars; the windows next to the porch are narrower. On the first floor, a sill band connects the windows, which are similar to those below, with an additional window above the porch. The facade is topped with a central three-bay pediment, and the hipped roof has a rendered stack positioned at the rear of the ridge on the left and another stack at the eaves on the right. At the rear, there is a central two-storey-and-basement canted projection with 20th-century casements matching those at the front. The interior has not been inspected. The house was built on land purchased by Reverend Atkinson in 1773. The adjoining wing, known as No 191 High Street, is not of special interest.
