Description

The bridge and weir at Hey Green were built in 1839 by John Dowse. The bridge is a single span arched structure made of rock-faced stone with vermiculated dressings. Its parapet consists of large vermiculated stone blocks that extend to large vermiculated stone gate posts, marking the entrance to the Hey Green Estate. An iron plaque set into the parapet displays the words "PRIVATE ROAD" in good Roman capitals, and the parapet is topped with iron railings. The weir is a curved construction made of rubble, featuring a large course of headers and a drop of approximately 10 feet. There is a culvert on the north side, which is controlled by a hand-operated paddle.
