Description

Bank Top is a mid-19th century farmhouse and outbuildings located in Marsden. The buildings are constructed from hammer-dressed stone with some rock-faced dressings. The barn has a pitched stone slate roof, while the rest of the structures have pitched slate roofs. The gables are coped and rest on moulded footstones. The complex consists of two and one-storey buildings arranged around a courtyard, with an opening on the east side and the barn forming the west side.

The two-storey house is situated at the southeast corner. On the north gable, the ground floor features a doorway with a fanlight, flanked by two single lights that have semicircular arched heads, pronounced voussoirs, and sills supported by small brackets. The first floor has three similar single lights, and the attic includes a small Venetian-style window. The east elevation has two pairs of single lights on each floor, matching the north gable. The south elevation mirrors the north.

The barn's east elevation presents a symmetrical facade with a large central doorway featuring quoins and a semicircular arched head, also rock-faced. There are two smaller doors with similar detailing and two single lights with semicircular arched heads. High above, there are two single lights and a central semicircular light, all with similar detailing. The west elevation resembles the east, although most openings are blocked or partially blocked. The south elevation has one single light with a rock-faced semicircular head, along with four ventilation slits above and three slits in the gable apex. The complex includes north, south, and east wings, with the northeast corner being two-storey. Various openings throughout the building feature semicircular rock-faced heads, and there are several larger window and door openings with elliptical heads, primarily supported by cast iron lintels. Some openings have been blocked.
