Description
Berry Greave Farmhouse, dated 1685 (as indicated by a datestone), is a farmhouse that has undergone alterations. It forms part of a farm terrace. The exterior is rendered, with a pitched roof covered in stone slate. A central chimney stack rises from the roof, and small stone brackets support the gutter. The south elevation has a ground floor entrance with a deep lintel featuring a false arch and chamfered reveals. Inscriptions read "IEW 1685" and "AH 1852." Four modern casement windows are also present on the ground floor. A continuous drip moulding runs above the ground floor windows and doorways, extending across to the adjacent property at No. 1 Berry Greave. The first floor has two modern casement windows, and one four-light mullioned window, constructed of stone with chamfered details (although two of the mullions have been removed). The north side of the building features a rendered, two-storey outshut extension which obscures the original north wall. This extension incorporates former mullioned windows, though the mullions have been removed. An original doorway, set within a porch, has a large lintel with a Tudor arch and chamfered reveals, bearing the inscriptions "AH 1852" and "IEW 1685." Above the doorway is a former two-light stone mullioned window with chamfered details. An original oak door, recently in use, is currently stored in an outhouse.
