Description
Huddersfield Narrow Canal Bridge 62 and Access Duct, built between 1794 and 1798, was likely rebuilt by a railway company in the mid-19th century. The bridge features a single span with a towpath that goes around the outside. The abutments are rock-faced and have rusticated dressings. The flat span is supported by iron beams and has longitudinal barrel vaults made of stone with iron tie members. A modern timber handrail is present, and there are stone setts on either side of the bridge. An elliptical iron plaque under the bridge reads 'L&NWR Co 62'. The access duct includes a manhole that is approximately 20 feet deep, with a timber cover, built into the rise formed for bridge 62, and has a large stone surround in the shape of an ellipse.
