Pair of semi-detached former Tunnel Keeper's cottages, now a visitor's centre. Early C19 with late C20 alterations. Two-storey, four bays. Coursed rustic stone construction with grey slate pitched roof, slate ridge and two stone chimney stacks. Each cottage consists of a single ground floor doorway, with to left a sash window. Upper storey has four alternately wide and narrow sash windows. All openings have stone sills and lintels. East gable end with single recessed mullioned attic light and second storey mullioned sash window. C20 adjoining sheds built to each side of the cottages in coursed rustic stone; two to the west side and one to the east, replacing similar outbuildings on the same site. Included for group value with listed Standedge Tunnel portals and Tunnel End Reservoir aqueduct.
